Puis cap sur Chiang Rai. La ville n’a aucun charme, mais elle possède de beaux temples (et un très chouette musée créé par un passionné de l’art Lanna). On mange tous les soirs au Night Market. Touristique, mais agréable.

Dans les environs immédiats de Chiang Rai, trois beaux temples (récents) et un musée sont vraiment d’un intérêt majeur ; Le temple blanc, construit il y a environ 25 ans, très curieux  (grotte, références à l’enfer et au paradis, salles d’exposition d’art contemporain..), un temple tout bleu (plus classique) et le « Big Bouddha, impressionnante construction (mais pas très belle !). On accède dans la tête de Bouddha en ascenseur ! Les maisons noires, quant à elles, sont l’œuvre du plus grand artiste contemporain vivant de Thaïlande. Très étrange, un peu morbide (une cinquantaine de pavillons en bois plein d’œuvres souvent à base de cornes de buffles et de coquillage):
